Behavioral Health

A healthy mind is critical to good health

Counseling is critical to good health, from dealing with depression to family issues.

Western Sierra’s behavioral health team includes a licensed clinical social worker. We are available to meet with patients in private offices in the new building in Grass Valley.

Our confidential counseling services include treatment for a wide range of problems such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, adjustment to life stress, family issues, parenting problems, attention deficit disorder and substance abuse. We also offer workshops dealing with chronic health conditions and weight management.

The behavioral health team works closely with primary care providers, Community Recovery Resources (CoRR) for patients dealing with substance abuse, Hospitality House for the homeless, FREED for people who have disabilities and Nevada County Behavioral Health for those patients with severe needs.

Behavioral health problems are serious and often life-threatening for many patients. Western Sierra has built a system in concert with our medical providers and outside organizations that meets a large majority of patients’ mental health needs. Our approach is flexible so we can connect with people from all walks of life.

Behavioral Health Treatment Modalities

There are hundreds of theories and approaches to psychotherapy. We use primarily the therapies that have been researched and proven to be effective. These are referred to as “evidence-based” practices. In addition to sessions, we typically encourage patients to practice the methods we have taught them and to do brief homework assignments.
